Through the creative inspiration of the Windsor Park Neighborhood Association’s Enlivenment Committee, we are working to build a Peace Labyrinth for meditation and contemplation in the space between the Windsor Park Branch of the Austin Public Library and the Austin Mennonite Church, in the heart of the neighborhood. The site is located north of the library at 5833 Westminster Dr., Austin, TX 78723.
We will be prepping the site over the next several weeks. Next Saturday (Jan. 31) at 1:00 PM, weather permitting, we’ll be smoothing out and tamping down the surface. This won’t require many hands, but if you want to join us for the fun of it, you are welcome.
Over the following two weeks, our core team will finish cutting the remaining bricks and paint the outline of the labyrinth onto the soil.
Then, on the afternoons of Feb. 7 and 8 (weather permitting), we hope to complete a major phase of this project, and your help will be invaluable at this stage. On Feb. 7, we’ll lay out the bricks on top of the painted outline to arrange them as desired. We may also experiment with mortaring a small section to refine the technique. On Feb. 8, we’ll rent a cement mixer and apply mortar to secure the bricks.
There will be one final workday (date TBD) when we will again need many hands. On that day, we will fill the paths between the bricks with decomposed granite.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We hope you will join us, and we’d love for this to be a community-building, neighborhood-enhancing project.
If you have further questions, please email enlivenment@windsorpark.info.
