On Saturday, May 30, a group of hardworking staff, students and community members volunteered to improve the look of Andrews Elementary School. Organized by principal Saleem Blevins and teachers Layne Faulkner and Maggie Suisman, we spent most of the day painting 9 portables in a rainbow of bright, sunny colors.

The school solicited donations of supplies from Home Depot, and food from Thundercloud Subs and Tres Amigos. They organized volunteers both from Andrews and the surrounding community, including a group of students from LASA, just down the road. It was a large job, and everyone was nearly done by lunch time, in time to enjoy delicious sandwiches and tacos.

Some additional work was necessary after lunch, but the job was pretty much completed in one day thanks to the dedication of all the volunteers.
